This is the fifth design in the Equilibrium series of bullion coins by the Pressburg Mint, and the second one issued in gold.
The coins in the series have a new design every year and are about balance - equilibrium - between technology and humanity.
The yin-yang is an especially important and popular representation of harmony, sprouting from the rich Asian tradition in philosophy.
Humanity has already explored much of our planet Earth. Now, we are not only focusing outwards into space, but inwards into our consciousness as well.
What is the relationship between our own selves and the great vastness beyond?
The reverse features a design representing the yin-yang symbol, with a geometric pattern in a circle within a human brain on the left, and on the right the planet Earth surrounded by stars linked by thin lines as constellations.
The obverse of the coin shows the crowned mature head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right (her effigy known as the "Fourth Portrait"). The Queen wears the "Girls of Great Britain and Ireland" diamond tiara, a wedding gift from Queen Mary (Her Majesty's grandmother) in 1947 - which she also has on the Machin and the Gottwald portraits.
In tiny letters below the head, the artist's initials IRB (for Ian Rank-Broadley).
Around the effigy is the monarch's legend, the date of issue and the value: ELIZABETH II - TOKELAU 2022 1 oz FINE GOLD 9999.
